Be Aware of the Harrogate Council’s Draft Local Plan

North Rigton Parish Council

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – ALL RESIDENTS OF NORTH RIGTON

We need to ensure that you are aware of the contents of Harrogate Borough Council’s Draft Local Plan, to enable you to have your say on the proposals.
On an initial look at the plan, you might not worry, as North Rigton is in the Green Belt and there is only one site allocated for development, and that was refused because of the Green Belt by the appeal inspector.
However, there are urgent concerns that WILL affect you.

The HBC plan proposes in excess of an additional 2,600 houses off the Otley Road, in addition to a major extension for the Business Park at Cardale. These will be in addition to the 583 houses to the West of Harrogate which already have approval.

These numbers do not include the other developments in the communities to the West of Harrogate.
We question, with the location of these developments to the west of Harrogate, where will the residents travel to work? If they wish to travel to Leeds or Bradford, will they travel through Harrogate? NO they will head south on the unofficial Western by-pass through North Rigton or Burn Bridge!

This despite the Draft Local Plan stating:
“The council’s Local Plan is based on a growth strategy that is centred around the key public transport corridors. Therefore the need for new homes and jobs will be met as far as possible in those settlements that are well related to the key public transport corridor.”

Statement by HBC Member for Planning & Sustainable Transport (Rebecca Burnett)

We encourage you to gather as much information as possible about the proposed plan, register and make your opposition clear by logging in and registering on the HBC consultation web site at http://consult.harrogate.gov.uk/portal
Once the formal response of the Parish Council is finalised, we will publish it for everyone to see the points we have submitted. Your comments can add weight to the representation by the Parish Council.
We need factual evidence of the problems caused by the increases in traffic through the village. If you would like to add to the information we have gathered please send your comments and information to the Parish Clerk at: northrigtonparishcouncil@gmail.com
There is still the opportunity for you to view the plans at the following venues:

  • Tuesday 29 November, 2-7pm: Green Hammerton Village Hall, Harrogate Road, Green Hammerton, YO26 8AE
  • Wednesday 30 November 2-7pm: Harrogate Baptist Church, Victoria Avenue, Harrogate, HG1 5RD

In addition:
Representatives of your Parish Council have met with the Harlow and Pannal Ash Residents Association who are leading a vigorous campaign against these developments.
Their Interactive map shows the sites and can be viewed at:
